Alright comrades, so on Monday of this week Samsung
announced their Galaxy Gear support for other Smartphone’s besides its own. The
company said it will be rolling out a Premium Suite update that will make a
variety of its devices compatible with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch..
But amidst all that innovation, and let it be known that I do
applaud Samsung for their efforts, however it is being rumored that about
30% of the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch has been returned in the U.S.
Nevertheless the Samsung Company is hopeful that as the
smartwatch becomes more compatible with Smartphone handsets the return rate
will decrease. But according to XBit Laboratories Anton Shilov, the watch has a
limited set of capabilities that come at a very high price and lack of third
party applications which will lead to the early demise Galaxy Gear Smartwatch.
Samsung Galaxy Gear is based on a custom 800MHz application
processor and is equipped with 1.63” Super AMOLED display with 320*320 resolutions.
The product features Bluetooth 4.0+BLE, accelerometer, gyroscope, 4GB internal
memory, and 512 MB RAM as well as Li-ion 315mAh battery. At present Galaxy Gear
is only compatible with Google Android 4.3-based Smartphone’s and tablets. The
device also features 1.9MP camera to shoot photos and videos.
Other features include, email, message, calls notifications
also delivery alerts for the same. It offers music control on Samsung Galaxy devices;
it helps users browse, play and pause songs even when their smart device is not
within reach. Additionally, it also works like a Pedometer to track physical
activity via enhanced, built-in sensor technology. It is furnished with a
built-in speaker that gives users the ability to make hands-free calls directly
from the Gear. The article also states that users can also draft messages,
create new calendar entries, set alarms, and check the weather on the Galaxy
Gear.
In my opinion I don’t think that this invention or whatever
you may call it was necessary, it’s like having two or more phones at once…which
might I add is already the case. Honestly, I am not surprise it’s being
returned at such a high rate, people are realizing that said same thing, which
is, it’s not so much a dislike for the device as it is redundant. Essentially,
Samsung did this just to say “hey I did it first.”
But, I wonder what would happen or what sales will be like
or if there will be any returns is Apple or Google were to do the same thing?
What do you’ll think?
what a great article, i am a proud support of samsung and it is a never dull moment for me when it comes to samsung products
ReplyDeleteLol ok, but what are your thought on the smartwatch though?
DeleteI agree with Apollonia. What are your thoughts? Are you just another blind fan of Samsung?
DeleteThe "I did it first" attitude seems to be apparent in my opinion. The battle has been on for a while now between the technology companies. Samsung doesn't want to be seen as a follower as it has in the past for high tech gadgets. But its attempt to reverse such seems to have met a wall of resistance. The mere fact that compatibility seems to be an issue is a stumbling block. According to your reference, the return rates are very high. Users seem to be disinterested. I am not sure if Samsung did their homework and actually involved users in the design. It seems now that they are putting the technology above the users, unlike Apple's whose success was built upon usability and user experience.

Yeah, I don't know what happened to Samsung that time, I think that maybe in an attempt to be the "first" they came up with a "fly by night" idea, so to speak. I really hope though that this does not affect sales and favours for other Samsung Products, cause this could be really bad for business.
DeleteI do not really believe it is a "fly by night" idea. It is just that they need to re-evaluate their position, modifying the device to create something that is a bit more practical.
DeleteThis watch doesn't get me interested at all due to redundancy, looks good though #SWAG!
ReplyDeleteI already have a smartphone in the palm of my hand, I don't want a repetition on my wrist.
I think this invention was brilliant but implemented at the wrong time, the reason why it's being returned by many buyers. People take time to accept certain things and the Samsung watch is one of them. Perhaps if they released it during a period when so many other smartphone companies (such as Apple and Motorola) were not launching or releasing their product to the public, the target market would have given it a much better response.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but I think that the hype over technological devices is almost immediate, some customers stay true to their brand of choice so it should matter to them who else it launching whatever else on the market. I think is more a matter of redundancy, nevertheless there is new that Google is planning on releasing their own Smart-watch soon, it will be interesting how their sales and probable returns compare to that of Samsung's.
