What a Thing !!

OK Right of the bat... What Primary email services do you use, and I am positively assuming a your saying, Gmail ! Hotmail/Outlook! Is anybody saying Yahoo yet ?? Well if you're not saying yahoo, then your probably right not to and I'm right with you, and then if you are well too bad for you cause get this..not even yahoo's employees use their email services.LOL I know right.

According to a recent release from Fox News, "Only 25 percent of Yahoo’s own employees use the company’s email offering, even after company executives exhorted them all to switch off of Microsoft’s Outlook, according to a leaked memo." (SMH)

Apparently the Executives are practically begging their employees, to switch off a product they describe as "a T.Rex born to yuppie dinosaur parents." (LOL)

In truth I can't blame Yahoo's employees, as yahoo is in every sense relevant to the proverb; "love that once run hot soon get Cold." This yahoo issue reminds me of the dear old blackberry and RIM; in that when the things first came out everybody rushed it and then after getting used to the boring old thing and eventually something young and fresh comes along and we carefully pay attention to the old looking for the slightest problem and reason to ditch, dump or move on from the old.

But I think that this was long coming for yahoo, because their services have gotten really tedious, I mean why do you have to do security and captcha checks every time you have to sign in? That is enough to to throw some people off well at least me.

G mail and Outlook are actually doing a lot better, particularly with the ease of navigation, sending and receiving emails, categorizing and so on and not to mention easy sign in and better security.

I don't know about you all, but I'm not going back to yahoo, maybe there may be a slight possibility if they regroup and come back with something exceptional. Matter of fact have you seen there new user interface? With out a doubt they are copying Google's g mail look. Check out the slide show on the link I provided below.

What do you alll think?

Do you still use yahoo?

Let me know!

What I want for Christmas_On to the Next !

So I been thinking about getting a new machine lately because the "ole girl" that I currently own just ain't cutting it no more..during my research I believe that I have found a "baby" that I actually don't mind investing in.

The Sony Vaio Tap 11

Here's why I believe its worthy of every scent...

  • Its actually remarkable how they compacted an 11 inch tablet machine in a 10mm (width) body,to be honest this is what caught my attention other tablet PC's are so bulky and think and does not really provide an ease for carrying
  • Windows 8 OS, I particularly like this cause I also want to be able to use my Tablet for tasking Microsoft office jobs.
  • Users can also have the choice of Pentium 3560Y, Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. There are also 128,256 or 512 SSDs not to mention it has USB 3.0 and microHDMI ports to be used at the users discretion.
  • Detachable keyboard, this will make it very easy to convert from table to PC in seconds. This also makes it better to do office and other work. The detachable keyboard also serves  as a cover when attached to the screen with magnets, during which time it self charges. "Sony has also provided a stylus, with accompanying apps for taking notes, drawing and annotations."
  • The Sony Vaio Tap 11 is has started an an unbelievable $799 US, which is good considering the specs its worth every penny.Of course there are some that might say that this start off price is hot, but you would have to admit that it offers a good bit of specs.
I must mention though that some folks are arguing that there aren't enough specs for the price, and while I may be agree with them, I think its Good enough. I particularly like how thin it is and the fact that it has USB ports. I think that I can be very efficient for the person (like me) who wants and PC and tablet but can't afford both; with the Sony Vaio Tap 11 you can the best of both worlds.

 Here's video for more information

What do you think ?

How would you advice me ?

Wi-Fi on the High Seas

Technology is once again at its best as it helps provide new hope for early detection of natural disasters such as Tsunamis.A new research led by Tommaso Melodia, the director of the Wireless Networks and Embedded Systems Lab at the University of Buffalo in New York, is aimed at making sensors and other underwater electronics more accessible to land-based devices, such as laptops and mobile phones.

The news release from ABC News also said, that the new technology will also help in the monitoring of  pollution, it is also expected to be beneficial to law enforcement officials when it comes to drug trafficking, by creating a network of devices that can detect such activity.

So here's how the implementation process works; being that conventional radio waves are not highly capable of transmitting underwater, acoustic waves are being used (same type as used in the submarine navigation system)  in a 40-pound sensors which is dropped into the water while attached to a relay buoy, which has an effective radius of about 1 mile and stays on the surface of the water. The Wi-Fi radio signal then transmits to the buoy, which converts it into acoustic waves for the underwater sensors.  According to the researchers it is also bidirectional. "Basically, you talk to them and they talk to you."

In case your wondering how all this integrates with the "salt, sea and sad", everything is encased in a half inch thick sphere and vacuum, so no water comes through.

"THESE GIANT YELLOW OBJECTS WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE UNDERWATER MORE WIFI CAPABLE"

I think that it will make a massive difference if Natural Disasters in particular can be predicted, which can have many life saving benefits. My hope though is that they are set up worldwide especially in Tsunami prone waters.

In addition another added benefit will be to make the ocean more WiFi friendly for sailors and the like, in that you can access the internet via your electronic devices from which ever part of the ocean you may be. This technology can also be instrumental, I believe is detecting vessels that may be distressed or gone adrift; once again SAVING LIVES!!

What are your opinions on this ?

Let me know !!

Wonderloop, the Worlds First Video Platform

For the past few years we have had many new social media sites, from Hi5 to Myspace to Facebook to Twitter to Instagram etc and yet still it seems to be that another one surfaces every six months to a year. For those of you who actually live for or enjoy social networking you can gear up to start another social networking account again as the new kid on the block Wonderloop picks up speed.

Wonderloop is said to be the "first social network with video profiles...allowing users to make the same type of first impression you would make in real life." Just like the other social networking site Wonderloop is also open-ended, linking you to friends and family etc.

The iOS app currently in invite-only beta and users can create video profiles limited to 20 seconds, which include a name location and any number of tags. The app however does not allow browsing of other profiles until their own has been uploaded. Founder of the App, social media consultant in Norway, Hanna Aase, "you can quickly check out a huge variety of people, but you're not tied down to a specific use case. Chatting with a developer in Spain is just as easy as meeting a blogger who lives in your neighborhood."

This app seems to attract the richer kids of society especially since, most of them are the major investors in the app. Wonderloop is expected to could revolutionize social networking in particular the way in which "people discover those who share the same interests – or at least the way the privacy-conscious young and wealthy connect."

I think that this will grow fast but among the "richer" of society, in my opinion what would be interesting to see is if this will bring in more revenue that facebook for its owners more so because of who is investing in it. I don't think that I will sign up for this, more so because I am more comfortable with the written platforms, and I believe most folks, especially form our part of society. Either way I am excited to see how it goes.

What do you think? Will you be signing up?

Let me know !

Technology at its Best: Saving Lives

If you had a chance to know beforehand that you or someone you loved were going to have a heart attack, would you take it? What if I told you that this possibility does exist, would you believe me?
Well guess what... is does, a new way of scanning the heart can identify those who may be at high risk of a heart attack, early tests suggest.
This test is aimed at identifying dangerous plaque buildup in the arteries of your heart. According to BBC News article scientists at the University of Edinburgh believe that such a tool can be very instrumental for predicting a heart attack and would make a huge to different for patients.
Doctors will use a radioactive tracer that can identify active and dangerous plaques, to generate high resolution images of the heart and blood vessels, which will present them with a precise picture of the heart and the danger zones.
This technology is not relatively new however, as it is already being used to detect tumours in cancer patients.
In case you’re wondering if it works, forty patients have already been tested and danger spots in the heart have been identified. The scan highlighted the plaque which caused the heart attack in 37 of the patients according to a study published by the Lancet Medical Journal.
Although this test/scan provides new hope for medical professionals and patients with heart problems more tests are required to see if this early detection  of dangerous plaques actually has the potential save lives. What Doctors are planning to so at least are, treat and stabilize the plaques, which may be able to prevent heart attacks and stop people dying. Of course this would include drugs like statins or aspirin, drastic lifestyle change or even inserting stents into the arteries to keep them open.

The scan shows a cross-section of the heart and the high risk plaque in orange

Personally, I think that if this test is available to me I will definitely take it and encourage anyone else to, because come on we have to face the fact that we don’t really eat all the right things, and we only try to prevent a heart attack after the first had already happened.
I am PRO-LIFE so I always applaud scientists for incorporating technology into medicine. Anything, even the simplest that can be done to save a life should be, so this idea gets two thumbs up from me I believe that it will indeed make a “massive difference” in the life of those who suffer will heart disease and other heart related problems.
What about you would you avail yourself to this test?
The key thing to remember here is that is can save your life, and if you love living then...Let you actions speak for themselves...

The Dawn of Driveless Cars

Have you ever been too tired too drive ? Have you ever wished your car came with an auto pilot ? Or maybe you had an accident, probably rare-ended another person's vehicle and wished that you were more concentrated on the road?

Well if you have answered yes to any of these questions, your gonna be intrigued by what technology has in store for cars in the not so distant future. Driverless cars, will be able to solve a lot of problems for drivers, according to "How Stuff Works" Jaime Page Deaton, automakers are developing complex systems that allow cars to drive themselves. They're also furthering existing technologies such as self-parking and pre-safe systems.

OK so if you wanna know how these things will work, they will operate on sensors in the wheels to detect when a car might go into an out-of-control skid, and then they use Auto Braking System (ABS) and engine management to keep the car on the road. This can be an upside because unlike error prone humans these technologies can apply the brakes and increase or decrease power to individual wheels, which is often better than brakes or power being applied to all four wheels by a human foot mashing the brake pedal in a blind panic.

Evidently, a major advantage of these cars is that they will prevent road accidents and "prepare the car to keep the occupants safe." So here's what happens in the unlikely event of an 'almost collision; according to the article, in a car with a pre-safe system, an alarm might goes off as you near the obstruction. The pre-safe system starts priming the brakes so that just touching the pedal will apply their full force. The car then reduces engine power, which will slow the car and reduce the severity of the crash, if there is one to come.Additionally, if the system detects that a crash can't be avoided, it'll prepare the airbags for deployment and tighten all of the seat belts, all of which is done in less time than it would take a driver to slam on the brakes.

Another great feature of these cars will be the automatic parking systems, of course this is already available in some cars like the Audi RS7 Sportback SUV among othe compact cars and hybrids. The car reads  the area around it, reacting accordingly and going safely from point A to point B.

I could go on forever about these driverless cars, but time and space doesn't permit me. While some may argue that robots are taking over I believe at some point that prediction is inevitable. I think this would be a great and most wanted technology especially since it does all the work for the humans. A plus is that it is ingenuity deeply oriented in user safety. Not to mention that this could mean less or no hassle to get and pay for drivers license, we may be able to sleep or do other task on the road without running the risk of car accidents or being ticketed by the cops, oh the endless possibilities... Technology is on a roll and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon; and if you cant beat them, then join them.

The question however remains, how soon will these things be coming to our part of the world ? I have read that they are scheduled to be release in the UK sometime in 2015. What about you, would you like to own one of these ? Do you think they can be efficient in terms of the safety features ? Would you let your car drive itself ?

My wish for Cars in the Future

Have you ever been driving or riding in a vehicle and was in desperate need of wifi but would have to wait for God know how long to reach to an access point. Yes I have been in that position too, which led me to come up with a proposition for any car company that would go with it. WIFI cars!

And hey it at the rate at which technology is going it will happen.  You can expect that not too long from now you’re the dashboard of your car will be just as resourceful as any other technological device. Ford According to Keith Barry of Car and Driver, Ford and Microsoft are have already began work on a multifaceted platform, the “Ford’s Sync” which will be available to users at a start up price of $395.

The article says, the next iteration of Sync grows into an integrated media hub called MyFord Touch, while in-car Wi-Fi which giver drivers and riders the freedom of taking the internet where ever they go.

For some this may super feature may already be available, well that is if you can afford the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. (Dare I say this is not precise to our part of the world?) If you enjoy how the iphone comes with apps that transform it from an MP3 to a phone to a map that you would enjoy the MyFord Touch  as it “alters the entertainment system, instrument cluster, voice commands, and steering-wheel switches depending on which software application a driver chooses to run.”

Aside from the estimated $1500 cost (according to an industry analyst) of the MyFord Touch hardware—USB port, touch screen, and memory storage—the system won’t break the bank for automakers because it relies on technology that’s already standard in the computer industry. Even in the absence of in-car Internet, some software apps could be manually installed using MyFord Touch’s USB port.

Honestly, I have been waiting for this forever, all that’s left is for my Brand- Toyota to start implement WIFI systems within the Dashboards’ of its Corolla Cars.
But hey what do you’ll think? Let me know…
