My wish for Cars in the Future

Have you ever been driving or riding in a vehicle and was in desperate need of wifi but would have to wait for God know how long to reach to an access point. Yes I have been in that position too, which led me to come up with a proposition for any car company that would go with it. WIFI cars!

And hey it at the rate at which technology is going it will happen.  You can expect that not too long from now you’re the dashboard of your car will be just as resourceful as any other technological device. Ford According to Keith Barry of Car and Driver, Ford and Microsoft are have already began work on a multifaceted platform, the “Ford’s Sync” which will be available to users at a start up price of $395.

The article says, the next iteration of Sync grows into an integrated media hub called MyFord Touch, while in-car Wi-Fi which giver drivers and riders the freedom of taking the internet where ever they go.

For some this may super feature may already be available, well that is if you can afford the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. (Dare I say this is not precise to our part of the world?) If you enjoy how the iphone comes with apps that transform it from an MP3 to a phone to a map that you would enjoy the MyFord Touch  as it “alters the entertainment system, instrument cluster, voice commands, and steering-wheel switches depending on which software application a driver chooses to run.”

Aside from the estimated $1500 cost (according to an industry analyst) of the MyFord Touch hardware—USB port, touch screen, and memory storage—the system won’t break the bank for automakers because it relies on technology that’s already standard in the computer industry. Even in the absence of in-car Internet, some software apps could be manually installed using MyFord Touch’s USB port.

Honestly, I have been waiting for this forever, all that’s left is for my Brand- Toyota to start implement WIFI systems within the Dashboards’ of its Corolla Cars.
But hey what do you’ll think? Let me know…

  1. This would be so cool and so dangerous at the same time. It will be convenient to receive all the necessities a data plan offers to mobile devices via WIFI as well and at a cheaper cost, but at a consequence-texting and driving. However, I do support it's use for passenger entertainment only.
